Multicultural Iowans Share Stories of Finding a Home Here

“Our fellows were part of, I would say, more marginalized populations and were also working with more raw subject matter,” Iowa Writers’ House founder Andrea Wilson says. “We asked them to explore that deeply, and the kind of commitment that takes in time is really considerable. I think there was some learning on our end. The fellowship is an opportunity to gain writing skills and to learn in an interactive and dynamic environment, but it takes a real dedication from those awarded the opportunity to take advantage of it.”

We the Interwoven Volume 3 Launches Despite Rocky Road for the Iowa Writers' House

Though this year has been fraught and this point has been hard-won by Wilson and her team, their goal for the moment has been achieved and the future is not without hope. "When I sit here and look at the manuscript, I'm blown away that we did it and that we did it three times," said Wilson. "We wanted to give these stories a real chance to make an impact in a big way, and I'm proud of what we created."

 

Iowa Writers’ House celebrates second issue of We the Interwoven

All the seats in Prairie Lights were filled with people gathered to welcome the second issue of We the Interwoven, a book published by the Iowa Writers’ House. Wilson said the purpose of the book is for it to have an effect on people’s perspective of what it is to be an Iowan and an American in a time in which the world is changing.
